Tara:  well, I think this is quite an interesting point of view!  It hadn't occured to me that Petunia might be a squib...yet I do wonder (and I am not trying to get into any lineage discussion)...  wouldn't Lilly and Petunia's family be a bit surprised to find out that they had a witch in the family if they were complete non-magical folk?  AND since the fact that "Harry has Lily's eyes" has been brought up more than once (in the books and especially in this group), that Lily herself comes from a magical family.  Sooo, maybe the exclamation "oooh we have a witch in the family" was meant more like "look, Petunia, we have a 'real' witch in the family (leaving her as a squib)".  Just a thought.  I found Petunia to be quite intruiguing in book 5... I'm hoping she will actually grow fond of Harry.
