LOL, I agree with you on what Snape possibly felt about being on the 
right side, and losing all the power he might have being a DE. I too 
can picture him saying those compliments + insults towards the Trio 
too. No slings and arrows at all :)
However, I suspect why he hated (or seemed to hate) Hermione was 
because Hermione was in many aspects like him (intellectual, care a 
lot about school work, not exactly social) but still manage to gain 
the friendship of Harry and Ron.
