Sirius was alive when he fell. He had been Stupefied, if I remember 
correctly (red jet of light, not green), and fell backwards into the 
curtain.

We don't really know WHAT is behind that curtain. This is the 
Department of Mysteries, it has all sorts of weird stuff in there. 
Who knows if the people there are actually dead? Maybe they're just 
trapped forever with no way of getting out. Harry and Luna can hear 
voices coming from behind there, and you can never tell with Luna... 
So maybe Sirius is alive (pleasepleasepleaseplease), but trapped back 
there for all eternity.

Hey, if Harry throws Sirius's half of the magic mirror in there, do 
you think they will be able to communicate? (pleasepleasepleaseplease)
