I've been thinking about that Slytherin boy in Hagrid's class who
could see the thestrals, and I've decided I have high hopes for
him. Sure, he could be some junior DE who had stood by and cheered
while Mummy or Daddy killed a Muggle, but if that's the case, why
bother having him in the scene at all? It's not like we need a
nasty Slytherin thrown in at this late stage to balance out all the
sweet, fluffy-bunny Slytherins we've seen before. Either the kid is
a totally irrelevant background detail (which isn't JKR's style), or
he's going to be developed in the future, and if he's going to be
developed, it's got to be into something we haven't seen before.
There would be no point in bringing in a brand new Slytherin
character now only to develop him into another example of the
stereotype.
