Oooh, I'd be willing to bet you're right on the money. Maybe 
Veritaserum would be ineffective, but I have a nasty suspicion the  
Cruciatus curse would "jog" Trelawney's memory, so to speak. I'd like 
to think that Dumbledore's insistence that Trelawney stay at Hogawrts 
was born partially out of kindness - she HAD been a teacher for 16 
years, and really, who else was going to take in an apparent failure 
of a Seer? This theory would certainly explain why JKR used the 
word "sharply" to describe the way Dumbledore commanded that Sibyll 
remain in the castle.
