Another reason that Dumbledore wanted Trewlaney to stay, and likely in line
with his motivation to hire her in the first place, is to have ACCESS to the Seer
who has had one and now two prophecies concerning Voldemort. He would
want her to remain around so he could have access to the knowledge of
future prophecies.
I now find it odd that Dumbledore never asked for a penmseive thought thread
of her second prediction so he could accurately and completely hear it. I also
wonder if there was some automautic record of that one made and located in
the DoM. (It would be accessible by only Wormtail and Voldemort)
Side note: I believe that the dull, non-glowing orbs indicate that the prophecy
had already come to pass.
