My impression from OOP was that the DEs all still think Snape is on 
their side.  I found this highly unlikely, but its obvious that 
Malfoy and the gang still look up to him, and he is still trying his 
best to be the same jerk that he's always been, as though he is 
trying to keep up his cover.  It seemed to me like he has somehow 
pulled off convincing the DEs that he has always remained loyal to 
Vold.  He says himself that he is skilled in both Legilimancy and 
Occlumancy, so he could probably tell lies to Vold without getting 
caught.  And since Vold is probably really arrogant, he probably 
believes what those he views as less powerful say, since he uses 
legilimancy.  If Snape says "I never turned on you, Dark Lord", and 
he successfully uses Occlumancy to protect himself, Vold would 
probably believe him.
