Spoiler Space!!!!!!
OK I finally have received my British Copy and have begun the third
reread. Please forgive me if this topic has been covered but there
are just too many post to wade through to find this specific thought.
At first, I could not accept that James was a mean person that would
be so cruel to another person for no good reason. After reading
chapter one again I have come to the conclusion that he had a valid
reason to act like he did.
In chapter one we see Harry finally able to stand up to Dudley,
fight back after 14 years of Cruelty and Physical abuse and turn the
tables on Dudley. This is a theme that we have all seen in books and
movies before.
I strongly believe that Jo has included this as a clue to something
more going on between Snape and James. It is very similar to the
James/Snape scene. I have not seen anyone yet feel sorry for Dudley,
just upset that Harry would act this way. But he really needs to.
He needs to stand up for his self, or he will be walked all over.
