I'm a newbie here and I've spent the last week reading these posts,
enjoying reading the theories, etc (I can't discuss with my husband
because he's only just started reading the book and has begged me not
to reveal anything).
Regarding Harry dying at the end, part of me thinks this is a red
herring on JKR's part, but another part of me thinks that perhaps
this outcome is likely - the last word of "scar" that has already
been revealed could mean that the scar might disappear with the death
of Voldemort and the evil it entails, or perhaps LV is successful - I
don't know if anyone has read "The Belgariad" by David Eddings, but
when one of the characters die, that character is restored to look
whole again, but is definitely dead (I won't reveal who in case
anyone is reading the series).
However, with regard to the death of Sirius (am I allowed to write
that under this heading?), JKR could be telling us that some deaths
are pointless, or my theory is that if he survived, LV would have a
huge weapon to lure Harry into danger (sorry if anyone else has
thought of this, I've read so much this last week that my mind is
buzzing). Harry loves Sirius and regards him as a father figure and
would do anything to help protect him - of course other characters
are in a similar boat with relation to Harry, but Hermione and Ron
are under the protection of Dumbledore after all. Another theory is
that Sirius was a reckless man who could lead Harry into danger - it
seems that he regarded Harry as a reincarnation of James, but Harry
has his mother's calmer temperament rather than his father's rash one
(although of course, Harry does have his moments).
And I guess thats my two knuts - hope it makes sense.
By the way, my theories on the last two books, I think Ron is more
likely to betray Harry than Neville or anyone else - I think Ron's
jealousy is getting worse, which is why he has been made prefect - he
can be something Harry isn't and in some ways he can protect Harry
from himself, and also to protect Ron from himself.
