Here is my theory, that might explain it. Neville knew. that Harry
wanted to save a Sirius. I am pretty sure, it was never mentioned
that it was Sirius Black. We don't know how common the name Sirius is
in the wizarding world, but Neville might very well have thought,
they were talking about another Sirius.
