Well, I don't know if you ever have worked in the treadmil of a huge
company or in a gov department. There is an enormous... how to put
it? group pressure going on there, a "you are with us or against us"
attitude. Now, a young man like Percy, who freshly comes from school
and apparently does have a "doing the right thing" agenda, gets
sucked up pretty fast into that group, getting positive feedback and
recognition where his father apparently failed. He gets fed
the "official" [aka Fudge's] version of things, the "behind the
scenes" informations that he has to evaluate. Should he believe his
family (who apparently doesn't have all the information that he
(thinks he) has) or should he try to correct their views?
Percy's young, he's impressible, and he didn't have enough
experience to see the minister and authorities for what they are:
fallible and partially corrupted, brought down by good intentions
and incompentence (there's a saying that you'll get promoted until
you reach your ultimate level of incompentence - people who have the
people skills but don't listen to the ones with experience and
knowledge)...
So, Percy has to re-evaluate his position.
Fudge will probably go down because of his association with Malfoy,
the stunt he pulled at Hogwarts and his failure to see the signs
about Voldie's return. OTOH, chances are pretty big that he will
keep a lid on things or have other people fired for his mistakes -
Umbridge, or maybe Percy himself? It depends on how big Fudge's
influence really is. The obvious item here is that the MOM will lose
its face after all the discrediting to DD and HP. They most likely
won't let this happen...
What will Percy do? He made a serious mistake and believed the wrong
people. If he is able to admit that he made a mistake, he might come
back into the fold. If he's too proud, he'll get himself stuck in
the swamp, start to make even worse mistakes and end up as a sorry
excuse for a Weasley.
