To jump into the debate and come to Tonks's defense, I think she is a
newly emerged character who hasn't much chance to grow yet but I like
what I see so far.

If I can make another of my Oz-Hogwarts parallels, I see Tonks
as the Jellia Jamb of the Potterverse... Not only some of the
personality resemblances (sassy, playful personality), but Tonks's
current status is similar to Jellia's in _The Land of Oz_ -- A new
character with likeable, funny traits with potential for future
growth and depth. Unfortunately, in the books following _Land_, Baum
pretty much abandoned Jellia as he concentrated on developing Dorothy,
Ozma, etc. and we see little of her subsequently. I hope the same
won't be true of Tonks, as IMHO she has a lot of the same potential.
But I guess it's hard when you have a lot of characters, and you have
to decide which ones to concentrate on (both Ozziverse and Potterverse
have this dilemma). But I still hold out hope, and in the meantime
there's always the possibility of fanfics!
