My reply:
 
I still believe in the theory that Dumbledore cares very much for Tom.  I think in some ways he wishes he had done more to help Tom.  For example, if only he didn't have to go to orphanage everyday. If only he sat and talked to him more, if only helped him.  Maybe Tom Riddle could be saved.  I think that Dumbledore is trying to savour what little of Tom (the good side) is still left in Voldemort.  I refuse to believe that Tom Riddle is a naturally evil person.  I also refuse to believe that he is unredeemable.  
 
I think this is one reason Dumbledore watches Harry so much.  I think he is worried about Harry a talented and troubled boy may go over the edge too.
