I agree that Luna is an interesting and multi-faceted character.
Although I was very wary of her at first (I find that I can be quite
unforgiving of new characters), I was quite sold on her by mid-
book. And, of course, my heart went out to her in the last chapter,
when we learn just how horribly she is persecuted by her fellow
students.
I also agree with you (and numerous other listies) who think she is
interested in Ron. This, combined with the fact that she is often
described as Hermione's opposite, has given me the sinking suspicion
that she is going to be used as a sort of wake-up call for Hermione.
Granted, from what I can see, Ron is the one needs the wake-up call
for the R/H relationship to occur. However, I think Luna might be
used to spur Hermione into becoming more proactive in getting Ron.
Obviously, this saddens me, as I liked her quite a bit and feel that
she deserves more.
On the other hand, as an H/H shipper I recognize that the sooner the
R/H relationship starts, the sooner it can be over with, and that
Luna may very well be the spark that starts the *inevitable* (^_~)
chain of events that leads to the life-long H/H romance.
Laura (who would like to stress that the last sentence was said
partially in jest, and who would like to state for the record that
she knows that *no one* knows which, if any, SHIP will be victorious)
P.S. Although I think the Ron/Luna SHIP is doomed, I do believe that
she would be VERY good for him. Ron, having been stewed in the
prejudices and narrow-mindedness of the wizarding world, needs her
to loosen up. He's far too concerned with appearances and
being "normal".
