I think it's a *really* bad idea for Hermione to do that.  If she just starts 
handing the house elves clothing concealed in books (or whatever) and sets 
them free, there are gonna be *A TON* of pissed off house elves.  Can they 
attack wizards?  Since all the elves technically work for Dumbledore... If Hermione 
sets them free, she'll have an army of angry house elves.  What do you think 
Dumbledore would do?  Hermione is setting house elves free, against their 
will.  When you think about it, Hogwarts must be the best place for a house elf to 
work...
