I think Dobby was quite fed up enough with the Malfoys to have
accepted dishonor, disgrace, and banishment for the sake of leaving
them, but he didn't leave them until he got the sock. I think that
indicates that the House Elves are held in a magical bondage.

Btw, did you see the post accusing you of being JKR in disguise to
steal ideas from our list?

That depends on whether she avoids acne and chubbiness.

I doubt anyone as laid-back as Dumbledore would be the Possessive
Papa. Of course he'd be just as concerned for his great-great-grand-
daughter's safety as for Harry, but he'd taken care of that by making
sure she can take care of herself. As for broken hearts or broken
hymens, surely he recognizes that as part of life.

In our hearts. In our memories. In time past (reachable by time
travel).

Where he has always lived: in stories.

<< My Narcissa question relates to her appearance; why do she and her
sister look so completely different? Bellatrix is dark haired, with
hooded eyes, Narcissa blonde. Okay, stand them next to each other and
the jaw might be the same, but still..., they're hardly the spitting
image. Now, black hair runs in the family. So does Narcissa simply
bleach because Lucius prefers blondes? Is there a peroxide potion
in the bathroom cabinet? Or ... does Draco's mother have a hidden
talent? >>

The Blacks appear to have a family tradition of astronomical names
(as in so much fanfic), Sirius, Regulus, Bellatrix are stars and
Andromeda is a constellation. (The tradition seems not to go back
many generations: I don't know of anything in astronomy named
Elladora or Phineas Nigellus.) [Phineas Nigellus means Black Black,
look up Phineas and Nigel in http://www.behindthename.com/ )

But "Narcissa" is not an astronomical name. (As mentioned by Amura.)

Both her name and coloring don't match her relatives, so I suspect
she might be a HALF-sister of Bellatrix and Andromeda: same father,
different (blonde) mother. Since the Main List ban on fanfic seems to
have dissolved in the flood of posts, I like to think that Narcissa
and Lucius were first cousins through their mothers... I invented the
silver-blonde sisters Lucretia Malfoy and Lucasta [Black], daughters
of Leucothea Borgin, nee Apostolopoulos, who was half-Veela...

Speaking of that family tree, was Severus Snape on it? The Black
house is very much the kind of house I imagined him growing up in,
except isolated in the countryside rather than in the city.

(Tim complained on the lack of any pun about the Black house / the
White House.)

of how horrible it is that these vile creaturs and blood traitors,
etc. are besmirching the house of her fathers. That implies to me
that 12 Grimmauld Place came to the Black family via marriage from
her side of the union. We never learn Mrs. Black's name. Wouldn't it
be an interesting twist if her maiden name was Snape? >>

Personally, I think the Black house had long been the Black house.
To me, Mrs. Black saying: "The house of my fathers" hinted that she
might be a double Black (by birth and by marriage). I know there are
some people on this list who get grossed out at the thought of even
fourth cousins marrying, but to them I say, remember these folks are
Dark wizards.

However, I expect that the Snapes and the Blacks ARE related. Since
the Snape memory that Harry broke through to seems to indicate that
Severus resembles his father, perhaps his father's mother was a
Black? Or could it be that hook-nosed man was NOT his father, but
rather his mother's brother? Then Severus's own mother (presumably
the woman being bullied by the man) could have been a Black.
