It's conceivable he will give it up, especially if Ginny still wants to
be Seeker.

Don't forget Ginny.

I don't think a Seeker would make a good, or even feasible, captain. 
For one thing, the Seeker plays a game entirely separate from the other
players.  He or she is not involved at all in the process of scoring
points and defending the goal, so he is not in a good position to come
up with plays, or coach the other players, or anything like that.  For
another thing, the Seeker can't spare any attention during the game for
anything other than seeking; he can't call plays, or move players
around, or anything.

If Ginny moves to chaser, she will be captain, since she is a better
player than Ron.  If she stays as seeker, Ron will be captain.

I didn't remember that.  I still think my argument above makes sense.
