my belief that JKR wants (finally) to reward the Weasley family for
their goodness. I can think of no one who deserves the fortune more,

many of the problems that pang that wonderful family.>

Oh, I agree with you that it would be wonderful for the Weaslys.
But, what about Harry? Won't that just stab through poor little Angry!
Harry like a harpoon, that his beloved godfather's possessions and
legacy should pass to Ron, not to him? In essence, that would force
Harry to share what little remains of his godfather with Ron. And
even though Ron doesn't have any money, he already has absolutely
everything else in the world that Harry lacks and wants with his
heart and soul: loving parents, wizard brothers he can turn to and
count on, a fun, loving home life, and so on. Having the precious
little that Harry felt he could call his own pass to Ron, who, in
Harry's eyes has absolutely everything else, could be a final blow to
Harry. .
Plus, even when Harry has something that Ron doesn't, he loses it
only to watch Ron obtain it: Harry gets bounced off Quiddditch, Ron
gets on. Harry is isolated the entire summer, Ron gets to spend every
minute with Hermione -- and, in a situation where they got to be "in"
on all the things Harry felt were being kept from him. Ron got the
prefect crown, Harry got passed over.
Sure would be tough to take. As Ron said himself, "One person can't
feel all that at once, they'd explode." (OOP, pg. 459, ch. 21)
