Hm, but what would his reason be for asking Hermione to go
to the ball with him?

The way she talks about Krum, and the things she mentions
about him in conversation make me think there really isn't
much else that would have motivated, *except* romantic
feelings.

And Hermione reacted very flattered (imo) and made it a
point to make herself look as nice as possible for the ball.

While Hermione is not all-knowing, she would have to be
pretty thick to miss Krum's obvious attraction to her.

She didn't miss Ron's, and I'm pretty sure she's aware of
Krum's intentions.
