Well, I think others have cleared that up, It was Riddle's muggle father and grandparents killed, not Voldemort/Riddle. But that point aside, do we really know that Riddle was an only child? First of all, we don't even know how he knows what he does about his mother. She died when he was born. It is feasibly possible that she had another child with a different father before she had Tom Riddle. An older half brother/sister could have been sent to a separate muggle orphanage, or to a relative who could only take in one child, etc. The child would have a different last name than Riddle, making it impossible for Tom Riddle to find without someone helping him. Would he have wanted to wipe them out too? For not taking him in? So many questions, so few answers.
