Unfortunately, yes. It's an Adult Human Attitude. Not a very nice 
one, but have you ever heard a child say:
"What do you expect, after all, 'the apple never falls far from the 
tree'."

How many really "nice" people do you know--how many of them are nice 
to *everyone*? Now, how many of those are *genuinely* nice? 
Severus Snape is considerably LESS nice than most--and probably ONLY 
because he doesn't bother to PRETEND to be nice. But he's certainly 
NOT alone in visiting the sins of the father upon the son. One 
shudders to think what Sirius Black Jr. would suffer in his classes.

(well actually, this "one" doesn't, this "one" would probably enjoy 
every minute of it)
