I agree with Carol.  Rowling is a teacher...she's trying to get a 
point across...also, remember what Dumbledore said...

"Merely taking your life would not satisfy me, I admit.."  Does 
anyone believe Dumbledore couldn't have killed Tom if he wanted to?  
There's more afoot than that.  Killing Voldemort won't end the evil 
if a lesson isn't learned...It'll be interesting to see how JKR 
concludes this mystery.
