Snape: evil or good

Unfortunately, from all the statements that J.K.R. has made about Snape in interviews, he does sound like he will turn out to be completely evil, which is a great disappointment to me.  I would like to seem some healing take place and for him to be a hero, broken and battered, but indeed a hero.  This is my fondest wish, but I must admit it doesn't look like this will happen.  So I feel a little better when I read others' e-mails expressing the same or similar feelings about Prof. Snape.
