Just a quick counter idea in case anyone asks:  "But then, why did Lupin
teach Harry how to summon a Patronus to protect him from the Dementors?"

Easy answer...  "To make sure he was safe and alive for Voldemort to get to.
If Harry's soul had been sucked out, he would have been useless to
Voldemort."
