Bode's madness

If Bode's madness is due to touching an orb, it can't be Harry's.

JKR writes OoP p. 779, 
"Ron was pointing at one of the small glass spheres that 
glowed with a dull inner light, though it was very dusty and 
appeared not to have been touched for many years."

Umm... didn't Bode touch it only a few months ago? If Bode DIDN'T 
touch the Prophecy, then what made him go mad?

I think it might be a flint - but something tells me it isn't. Has 
someone already discussed this?
