Tri Wizard Tourney

Ok I have jest re-read and listened to both the American & British Releases of GOF. What I want to ask is did anyone notice in all three versions of GOF Hagrid says that he thought that he could not believe that he would ever see the Tri-Wizard Tourney again??? We all know that he was at Hogwarts the same time as Tom Riddle [ soon to become Voldie thing ]. So how could Hagrid have seen the Tri Wizard Touney before????
