That does explain it to me!

And as we know from the Graveyard scene, LV did it another way. He 
only crucio'd Harry because he knew (from Barty Crouch JR's info) 
that the Imperius curse wasn't going to work. Otherwise,IMO, LV would 
probably have shown to his DE's that he was also able to control 
Harry by means of Imperio, both to diminish Harry's worth to Harry 
himself as to the DE's (and to finally AK Harry without a fight?)
