The Sergeant Majorette says
Not at all. My "Harry Potter Experience" when I was a kid was "The
Little Princess" and "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett,
which are not only English but late-Victorian. Granted, I am a female
(more verbal?), but I was younger, like 6 or so. You get deep enough
into it, you can get the meaning from context.
Besides, why a boy would wear a jumper is an easier question for an
American parent to answer than why Ron would try to get Hermione to
eat a spotted dick.
