The Tournament isn't held every five years. In fact, before GOF, it
hasn't been held for over a century. Dumbledore is reviving the old
custom in hope of uniting the three largest wizarding schools in
Europe against Voldemort.
As for the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students, Krum spent a lot of
time in the library, but I imagine that the other students took
lessons from their headmaster or -mistress in their ship or carriage.
I see no evidence that the Durmstrang group joined the Slytherin
seventh-years or the Beauxbatons joined the Ravenclaws. That would
have been too great a burden on the Hogwarts teachers. And to have
them do no studying at all would be a disservice to the students and
their parents. So they must have had their own classes or independent
study. (No evidence for my speculation, but it makes sense to me.)
