Red Hair, Weasleys and Evanses

Red hair IS rare--though not exactly unknown, especially in the British Isles. The thing to 
remember is that red hair comes in many flavors, from the fair strawberry blonde sported 
by JKR (and my wife, btw) to the carrot-red that identifies the Weasleys to auburn. Lily 
Evans is described in the OotP chapter "Snape's Worst Memory" as having "dark red" hair--
similar, it would seem, to Julianne Moore's, say--neither copper red nor brownish auburn 
but somewhere in between. That would seem to preclude Lily from Weasley-ness. 

Evans is a Welsh name--and the Welsh, though Celts, don't seem to tend toward red-
headedness....
