Weird thought about LV & Wormtail and dark mark

What I find even more interesting is that when Crouch!Moody says the 
above line about marks not coming off, Snape clutches his left fore-
arm compulsivly as though in pain. This is the only instance I have 
heard of when mere reference to the mark could cause pain to the 
bearer. Wouldn't that make Snape a little suspicious? I know he 
wouldn't have wanted to look like he was investigating Moody, but he 
must also have known that Moody couldn't have that pain- causing 
power.... unless, of course, there is something I am missing.
