And from another post Kat wrote:
I STILL think the only thing JKR revealed during that chat was
that Snape
isn't LINKED to vampires (see my comparison to Lupin/werewolves).
Kat/rxk, who would really be interested in hearing potioncat's
Perseus Evans
idea as I think we may have had the same though!) :D

Potioncat:
As someone who finds word search puzzles frustrating, I'm amazed at
the anagrams and acronyms that I've seen at this site! But it's mind
boggling to think JKR could have come up with Severus Snape which
just fits the man perfectly and Perseus Evans which ties in with
other aspects of JKR's mythology so well. Yet it would be too
far fetched to think it is a coincidence. Certainly, she could have
gone for the Evans and worked to find any name that would fit.

On the chance that Perseus had been chosen for a reason, I was
reading about the original Perseus. I don't think JKR intends at all
to mirror the names with their fates. But here are some similar
aspects to this name. Maybe it's a case of finding what you are
looking for, but here goes. (I should add, my mythology book is
missing, so I'm writing from memory.) And I would ask those of you
are better informed or who have references at hand to feel free to
correct or improve this tale. Also, I'm sort of ignoring the parts
that don't fit.

1. It has been predicted that the king will die at the hand of his
grandson. He locks his daughter away, but she becomes pregnant.
(via Zeus) Perseus is the child. The king then puts the child and
mother in a trunk and puts them out to sea.

This reminds me of the scene we saw in his memory of a man yelling
at a woman in front of a small boy. And of the teen being isolated.

2. They arrive at a distant kingdom and are taken in. When Perseus
is a young man, another king tries to kill him by sending him after
a monster.

Serius and the prank?

3. He kills the monster (Medusa) and on the way home, rescues
Andromeda from a sea monster.

This one fits the Black family's tradition of chosing names from
stars or mythology depending on your point of view, and Perseus is
both.

One more thing, my book had indicated that some authors listed Alba
as one of Perseus's great-grandfathers. Reading without my glasses
I thought it said Albus. Now that had me going on a theory!

I also thought it interesting that Lucius Malfoy and Severus Snape
are named after a Roman general.(emperor?) I wondered if they had
some family connection. Going on the pattern that families in JKR's
world tend to name along a theme.

What are my thoughts? I'm not sure, I haven't gathered them yet.
Kat, how does this fit with your idea? Anyone else?
