What if the anagram is just a vague clue to point us in the right direction? It may not be as
obvious as Severus Snape originally being Perseus Evans.
idea #1:
It could be that Snape's mother's maiden name was Evans, and that he may be more
distantly related to Lily. Perhaps they were cousins (or maybe even half-siblings? but i
think that would complicate things even more). But that wouldn't explain the possibility of
Snape and Lily knowing each other before their time at Hogwarts.
>From what we can gather of Snape's childhood (OotP Occlumency lessons), it would seem
that it was probably an unhappy one. Maybe his parents split up, and Snape lived with his
(presumeably muggle?) mother. Though it would mean that Snape's apparent dislike of
muggle-borns (OotP Snape's pensieve memory) might be a result of being separated from
his wizarding father, and disliked the muggle world because of it. Or it could be that
Snape lived with his father, but when he was young had met his cousin, Lily Evans.
idea #2
Then again, there's Mark Evans. And another possible theory. (Although, this wouldn't
really make Snape related to Harry by blood.)(which would actually fit) Snape could be the
father of Mark. But, if that were the case, wouldn't Mark's last name be Snape? Again, here
comes the possibility of a divorce. Perhaps Snape married a woman from the Evans family,
had Mark Snape, but the marriage ended in divorce and Mark's last name was changed to
his mother's.
But then, both of these explanations leave a question unanswered: who is Perseus? Maybe
it doesn't matter...
I guess I don't like the idea of taking the anagram too seriously. So these are just
speculations and possible explanations about the proposed theories, that don't result from
believing the anagram to be literal.
(feel free to tear what I've said apart.)
