True, Veritaserum would work, but he'd hardly be so reluctant to 
mention it, Harry  having seen it used on Crouch!Moody already.
Besides, on more practical grounds DD had been in hiding for some
time and it's not likely that he carries a vial around 'just in case'. Not
likely that it would be lying around at Grimmauld Place, either.

I rather fancy that DD had had enough of that obstreperous little shit
and was in no mood for messing about.
