I guess in the end it comes down to personal preference. My own
mother (Greek) is a fabulous woman, and has worn as much stress and
burden as any one woman could cope with (two jobs, the house, a very
traditional husband), but she was never a tryant and she has always
been extremely supportive of her two left-of-centre daughters (my
sister and I have done nothing the way we were *supposed* to, to my
father's great dismay).
To my mind, the way that Molly treats the twins is abominable
because they obviously have a wealth of talent better applied
outside the academic world and she does nothing to encourage that.
She also demonstrates preferential treatment for those of her sons
that actually achieve what she personally wants them to achieve.
It's just as well the twins are blessed with so much natural self-
belief because otherwise that could be quite scaring.
She seems to me to be a classic example of the overprotective,
overbearing mother-figure and while she certainly provides some
light humour at times, I find her irritating in the extreme.
Still, this is just my personal opinion and I can understand why
others really like Molly... I just personally find her distasteful.
