It's true that it would be very odd if it was the anagram was a pure
coincidence. And to me, the name "Severus Snape" has always sound very made-up,
so it wouldn't surprise me too much if JKR came up with "Perseus Evans" first
and then changed them around to be "Severus Snape".
I seem to recall that another anagram like this was pointed out a long time
ago..."Persues Evans" intending to mean that Snape pursued Evans, but
considering that involves a spelling mistake, that can't be seen as any sort of
clue.
This is the definition for "Perseus" that I found at
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r==2&q==perseus
"1. Greek Mythology. The son of Danaƫ and Zeus and husband of Andromeda who
killed the Gorgon Medusa.
2. A constellation in the Northern Hemisphere near Andromeda and Auriga. .
... A consellation of the northern hemisphere, near Taurus and Cassiopea. It
contains a star cluster visible to the naked eye as a nebula."

It is interesting that Perseus is a constellation, which the Black family h=as a habbit of naming their children after.
Maybe this means that Snape is somehow connected to BOTH the Black family and
the Evans family? Now that would be interesting...especially considering that
it might mean that Harry is related to Snape AND the Black family!

Maddy writes:
If Snape is related to the Blacks it might perhaps explain Sirius' reasons =for wanting to get Snape killed. It's possible that Snape and Black knew each
other before Hogwarts. I doubt that it has to do with Andromeda, mother of
Tonks, though.
I'm still a little reluctant to take the anagram literally, though. It could
just be a prod in the right direction, telling us to look closer at Snape and
the Evans and Black families. But I think it's still definitely worth pondering.
