As for her stabs at Sirius in OoP, that is easily explained. Molly
wants Harry to be part of her family. Sirius, she sees as taking
Harry away from her. When she has a go at Sirius for not being there
it is becuase she is trying to claim Harry as part of her family for
fear of losing him. She is jealous that Harry has someone else to
make a family with. Molly is obviously faulted but so we all are.
It's understanding these faults that is the key.
I agree with many of the points against Molly, she can be overbearing
and unfair at times. But I think these imperfections make her character
more interesting. No offence to any mothers out there, but if she was
a 100% perfect mom then I doubt any of us would like her character anyway! Also, she does has good intentions and a big heart, she just wants Harry
to have a better "home life" than he's had in the past.
And as for her comments to Sirius, I think she perhaps saw some of Sirius' behaviour that we didn't see, maybe Sirius did speak of Harry in a more friendly than fatherly way. He is a threat to her because he could take
Harry away, and she doesn't know him that well so doesn't understand his relationship to Harry. As well, if Sirius was cooped up for really long
time with Molly it is inevitable that they get on one anothers nerves. I thought Sirius was the annoying one in OoTP, encouraging Harry to behave
like James. I think JKR did this on purpose to help ease the passing of Sirius. Okay, so his death wasn't easy, but if you think about it he and
Harry had no real future together. Sirius as a father figure? I don't
think so.
JKR did the same thing with Cedric in book four - he was dating Cho so we
had reasons to dislike him - and then he died. I also felt that she was
doing this with Hagrid as well (I found him VERY annoying in OoTP) so I wouldn't be surprised if he was next to go. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't
HAPPY that Sirius died and I wouldn't be happy if Hagrid died, but I've
noticed that JKR tends to emphasize the negative traits of characters especially right before they go. But then again, all her characters are
a balance of positive and negative (which makes them far more interesting)
so I could just be reading into things that aren't there. Anyone else
notice this or am I going crazy?
