I haven't read all the replies on this thread (I'm new here and they
are scattered all over the place) but I have got a couple of points
to contest. The first point being with Hermione in GoF
Now we all know that Molly loves to mother Harry. She washed his
socks, buttered his toast and forced him to eat fourth helpings at
every meal (CoS). When she reads Skeeter's article in Witch Weekly
she goes in all guns blazing believing that Hermione is actually
screwing him around. Molly, loving Harry as her own, naturally wants
to defend him and this is the reason why she is so cagey with
Hermione in the latter half of GoF. When Harry clears up the mis
understanding she is fine. This is becuase Molly doesn't have a
problem with Hermione but is just being over protective of Harry.
This is also evident in Azkaban when she says:
"Do you really want to send Harry back to school with that hanging
over him? For heaven's sake, he's happy not knowing!"
Here Molly is being the typical over protective mother. She is
totally underestimating Harry here, believing him to be more
vulnerable than maybe he is, but is that not typical of a mother?
She just wants to protect him - even when he doesn't need
protecting.
As for her stabs at Sirius in OoP, that is easily explained. Molly
wants Harry to be part of her family. Sirius, she sees as taking
Harry away from her. When she has a go at Sirius for not being there
it is becuase she is trying to claim Harry as part of her family for
fear of losing him. She is jealous that Harry has someone else to
make a family with. Molly is obviously faulted but so we all are.
It's understanding these faults that is the key.
