Any "real sleuths among you"? Because I'm not so sure about this one.

What doesn't make sense is the notion

about a man 12 feet high, right? Around twice Sirius's height, not
to mention bulk.

Anyone got any ideas or is this just something the author and/or

Nah... It works the same way the Weasley's Ford was enchanted to seat
five in the backseat, comfortably, with all their school stuff.

Just magic.

Carol responds:
Although I like Cindy's idea that the motorbike expands magically to
accommodate Hagrid, I also think that "twice as tall as a normal man
and three times as broad" is an exaggeration, especially since (IIRC)
one of the books states that he's *five* times as broad. Also, we have
handkerchiefs the size of tablecloths and hands(?) the size of dust
bin lids. Madame Maxime has shoes the size of a child's sled, which
would be disproportionately huge even if she were literally twelve
feet tall. I'm quoting from memory, but I'm pretty sure the examples
(except possibly hands) are correctly paraphrased. Clearly the
proportions of the objects are humorously exaggerated for the
amusement of young readers. The height and breadth may be exaggerated
as well since Hagrid enters the hut on the rock in SS/PS without
bending over and somehow fits inside a Muggle train. OTOH, if Grawp is
really twenty feet tall, Hagrid may well be twelve feet. Anyone else
think that his size is exaggerated, possibly reflecting Harry's (or a
normal human's) point of view?
