Thanks everyone that replied, I *love* reading other people's predictions. I just can't wait to see if any of them come true!

>#1: Harry fails to get 'Outstanding' in his Potion's OWL, but gets into NEWT Potions anyway thanks to a new, more understanding Potions Master or Mistress (Tonks perhaps? She must be good at Potions seeing as she's an Auror and all).
>Mo: I think he actually WILL get a good grade on his owls. Snape is a superb potions teacher and has taught the students well. Harry gets poor grades because Snape doesn't like him. However, Snape did not give the OWL exam and it is mentioned that Harry could concentrate easier during the exam because Snape was not present.
Me again: I'm in two minds over Harry's Potions OWL. I'd love to see Snape's reaction on hearing Harry got an 'Outstanding' result! Just a thought, do you think Snape was deliberately giving hims D's to make him more determined to do well? Maybe Snape's using reverse psychology? Or maybe he's just being Snape ; )
>#2: Snape on the other hand is finally given the DADA job, as DD accepts that Snape won't let it "bring out the worst in him", and pupils are v. behind anyway so they need someone highly skilled (I always assumed he would get the job towards the end of the series ever since we were first told he wants it, and especially since Umbridge inspected his class).
Ellen replied:
> There have been conversations about the DADA position. Every one has been a new character to the story, so far. Also Harry has met, in some way (whether he was aware of it or not), every single one before the start of term. So I think we'll meet someone new early in book 6 who will turn out to be the teacher. Poor Snape. Passed over again.
I admit, JK will probably continue this pattern in book 6. It would be funny though, if Ron (who I assume won't continue with Potions if he doesn't have to) thinks he's rid of Snape forever, yet who's sitting at the DADA desk first lesson? Snape. Haha! I hope he gets it in book 7 though.
>#3: Harry resumes Occlumency lessons, whether with Snape or DD I'm not sure, but it's more important than ever that Harry learns to block LV from his mind, esp. since that vision of Sirius. Although LV must know Harry mightn't fall for other visions again, we know it's possible for LV to get information through Harry. *If Dumbledore does teach Harry Occlumency, it would be a great opportunity to learn more about DD, who we know surprisingly little about.
Ellen wrote:
> Maybe Lupin steps in for special lessons? At the Shrieking Shack?
This is definitely possible! I think we'll see the Shrieking Shack again, maybe as a place for Lupin to teach Harry secretly, or the next headquarters for the Order (if they move).
>#5: We will find out about Hogwart's staff's spouses. As JK said, a few of them have had spouses, information which is "sort of restricted", and I'm betting we'll discover that DD had a muggle wife years ago but outlived her. Also, maybe Snape fell for and even married a muggle female, but she was murdered post-Voldemort when Deatheaters were still murdering muggles. Is this part of the story he told DD for him to trust him?
Mo wrote:
> Interesting theory about DD being married. Actually, I can't see either of them being married, especially Snape. I think thing Snape did to earn DD's trust will be more significant than that.
I definitely agree with you there, I just thought it might be a small part of the story. I'm not that convinced Snape was ever married actually, I was just throwing ideas around. I think it's the least believable of the predictions! I really hope JK tells us Snape's story though. Again, I'm sure I read somewhere that book 6 would concentrate more on Snape. Can anyone give strength to this rumour?
Ellen wrote:
> DD with a wife I can picture.
Me too. I really believe DD had a muggle wife, a few things helped me to this conclusion:
1) JK's tantalising spouse question answer.
2) DD reads muggle papers.
3) His concern for Frank Bryce's disappearance in GoF.
He cares about muggle affairs so I think he must have cared for a muggle at some point.
>#8: Deatheaters inevitably breakout of Azkaban and rejoin LV. Lucius Malfoy leads a wave of muggle torture and murder, the beginnings of which Harry hears about on the news at Privet Drive before the new school year (I'm sure I read somewhere JK said muggles would notice more happenings in the next book).
Jen wrote:
>You were thinking of the World Book Day chat, that Muggles would start noticing more happenings in book 6:
Calliope: "Are the Muggle and Magical worlds ever going to be rejoined?"
JK Rowling replies -> "No, the breach was final, although as book six shows, the Muggles are noticing more odd happenings now that Voldemort's back."
Thanks Jen! I knew I read it somewhere ; )
>#9: This is the last straw for Fudge, and he resigns as MoM before he's sacked for not acknowledging LV's return in the first place. He's surprised when DD refuses to take the job as MoM, but he can't leave Hogwarts as Voldemort would jump at the chance to control the school with DD gone. Instead Arthur Weasley is surprisingly voted in!
>Mo: Hehe. Good one! I never thought about the MoM position... But it would be kind of sweet revenge if Arthur Weasly got to be MoM.
I got the Arthur Weasley as MoM prediction from a post here ages ago, but I can't find it! It was really good, and mentioned something Ron said in a previous book, along the lines of ' if that happens dad will be the next Minister of Magic!' sarcastically (sorry, no canon references on me!). Who posted that?!
>#10: In the annual end-of-term showdown with LV, Harry comes face to face with Snape (being the spy of course), whom he must trust in order to escape. Harry's Occlumency skills will come in handy here too, so as not to reveal Snape's true loyalty.
Ellen:
> This would be very cool, in my opinion. I'm convinced he's a double-agent and it would be a very interesting way to reveal this to the readers.
I really hope this happens in book 6 or 7! Snape will be posing as a DE just when Harry meets LV! What a great scene that would be! Or maybe LV summons Snape to kill Harry? What then?
Mo wrote:
> I think Lupin will play a bigger role, especially when it comes to guiding Harry. I think he will step in as a sort of psudo-guardian/mentor.
Just a thought, is it possible that Lupin could be made a spy? As a werewolf he might be approached by LV or his DE's to take their side. They are supposed to be gathering an army of Dementors, Giants, etc. What do you think?
Mo:
> As for book 7, I think LV is going to cause his own destruction. Lets look at what the prophecy says "None can LIVE while the other SURVIVES."
It doesn't say, 'None can live while the other lives.' Obviously, BOTH are LIVING right now. So, I think there is something more in that prophecy.
I agree, the wording of the prophecy is interesting, I barely noticed before. "Survives" what though? We need more explanation JK!
Ellen wrote:
>....wouldn't it be cool for the OotP or Harry to lure him (LV) there (Privet Drive)?
What WOULD the Dursleys say! I like this idea a lot, I can really see this happening! Thinking about it more, I'm nearly convinced the book 7 showdown will be at Privet Drive. But *does* LV know about the protection there? Do you think DE's have tried to attack Harry there before?
Jen wrote:
> As for Privet Dr. in general, we've seen a slow erosion between the Muggle/WW starting with the Owls. Since then we've watched Dobby, the Knight Bus, Padfoot, the Weasleys & now Dementors surrying in and around #4. I think in Book 6 there will be a final breach in security that makes Privet Dr. unsafe for Harry to return there. We know LV can't touch Harry, nut apparently every other person and creature in the WW is welcome!!!!
Of course, maybe Book 6 is too soon. But unless there's some additional protection on the house itself, like a charm allowing only magical people/creatures to enter who intend to help, not harm, Harry, I just don't see how Harry is safe there.
This is true, esp. now that a no. of Dementors know exactly where to find Harry in his Summer Holidays. Or maybe DD will continue sending people to stand guard at #4 (except Mundungus).
I'd like to know how DD has been watching Harry 'closer than he'll ever know'. Is DD an animagus? I know Hermione looked up people who can transform, but only those who had done so in the last 100 years (I *think*, please correct me if I'm wrong!). We've been told by JKR that Dumbledore is an Old English word for bumblebee. And JK named Sirius and Lupin after their animal forms, maybe bumblebee is DD's animagus form, and is how he watches Harry without being seen?
Ellen:
> I'm also leaning towards the speculation made by others that there will be an attack on Hogwarts itself, possibly in book 6. There's gotta be a bigger role that Marauder's Map is going to play, beyond a tool to help students into mischief.
This is very interesting! I completely forgot about the map.
I like your predictions Dave, esp. #14:
>Voldemort will work to build up his "Army of creatures whom all fear". Among his new allies will be the dreaded Lethifolds (see pp. 25-7 of Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them_), which Voldy will try to use against Harry. Meanwhile, Dumbledore will be creating a defensive menagerie of his own, with Hagrid's help. Buckbeak, Fluffy, and Grawp will be among those taking part.
I have to dig out my copy and look up those Lethifolds again! Definitely agree about the menagerie bit. Do you think the centaurs will join DD, or keep distancing themselves from the whole thing?
Dave:
> #16: Harry will use Sirius' two-way mirror to communicate with someone (but not Sirius).
The two-way mirror was insignificant in OotP, so we can bet it will be hugely significant in future books! If only Harry used the mirror to contact Sirius instead of the fire in Umbridge's office...
I love vmonte's prediction about Tonks dying while impersonating one of the kids. I think there's definately a reason JK introduced her with this particular gift. And I forgot about that wizard geneology book at Grimmauld Place! Maybe Harry will discover he has a link with Godric Gryffindor this way, or find out about his grandparents. I doubt he'll discover he has living relatives though, simply because JK said that the Dursleys were Harry's *only living* relatives! I like the idea that "Quidditch positions the students play are symbolic for the roles they will play in the war" too. Read that post, it's a good one!
