Sea Change responds:

Human beings being the gossipy primates that they are, and the
explosiveness of the topic Unforgiveable Curses, means that the
information that Moody was doing this likely rocketed throughout the
school.  We certainly see some unspecific cannon that shows that the
students all suddenly were talking about DADA and agreeing it was the
best ever.  While JKR didn't specifically say that the Unforgiveable
Curses were specifically part of these conversations, it does violence
to my reason to suppose that they weren't.

It seems very unlikely to me that DD was unaware of this unusual
teaching method after the first classful, whether or not it was
pre-approved.  I got the impression that DD merely suspected and not
knew Evil!Moody based on the ending dialogue of this book.  If the UCs
are truly as awful to the soul as Carol supposes, then I personally
wouldn't be merely 'suspecting'.
