Lilly and Petunia

I read the board when I can so, I may have missed this discussion.  
Just point me in the right direction....

What If.....  Lilly and Petunia were not born to muggles?  What if 
Petunia is a squib?  

In the Mirror of Erised, Harry sees many family members with his 
eyes, his mothers' eyes.  Could a muggle be in that reflection?  Is 
there enough truth in the mirror to trust that these are indeed 
reflections of his family and not just Harry's deepest desire?  The 
inference is, for Lilly and James, their reflection is accurate.

And...  In OOP, Petunia knows about Dementors.  That is not likely to 
have been something discussed in Dumbledore's letter that was left 
with infant Harry (which I think Vernon read.)  And, didn't the 
Dementors work for Voldie back when that letter was written?  Petunia 
knew they were guards at Azkaban


And
  Again, in OOP, doesn't Dumbledore's owl mail to Petunia refer 
to a promise?  When did that occur?  Again, Vernon read the original 
letter, so why does Petunia seem to know about a promise that Vernon 
does not know about?

There are many unanswered questions here.
