I also said that Lupin had just transformed into being a werewolf and back. 
He was sleeping most of the way to Hogwarts and probably couldn't apparate. 
Lupin admits that being a werewolf takes a lot out of himself and it shows as 
when the trio sees him after, they comment that he still looks ill.
