Also Ollivander makes a point of the extraordinary power of that
particular wand, which has helped LV do those "great but terrible
things." IMO, it *helped* Tom Riddle become Lord Voldemort because it
sensed latent power in him and brought it out. I'm not blaming the
wand or saying that it corrupted Tom, only that it especially suited
him. I don't think he would ever find a wand that worked as well for
him. His strategy would simply be to deprive Harry of the "brother"
wand to prevent it from being used against him rather than
surrendering his own wand. Yew wood and phoenixes are both associated
with immortality, his chief ambition. I doubt very much that LV would
consider abandoning that particular wand regardless of his inability
to duel with Harry. There are other ways to kill that meddlesome boy.
He just has to figure out how to do it.
