Why Neville might be mentioned in the Prophesy?

I've mauled this over in my head, and I know I have
seen posts around this topic.

I find it odd that JKR mentions Neville to be a factor
in the Prophecy.
It complicates the story quite a bit. If Neville had
NOTHING to do with the prophecy, then why would JKR
even add it or suggest anything in the story at ALL?

She could have just had DD say, 'there was a prophecy
about you, (HP) and LV went to fulfill it.' etc. No
one would have thought twice about it. But, the fact
that DD clearly states that it was uncertain in the
beggining, which boy was "THE boy" means it still is
up in arms.

I kind of think of the Prophecy like the MacBeth
prophecy. The three witches tell MacBeth that he will
be king, and then MacBeth decides to go on a killing
spree until he is king. It's like a paradox. Would
MacBeth have become king without the witches telling
him he would, or was it because they told him he would
that he took it upon himself to try and become king?

Similarly, is HP now the choosen boy because LV
"marked him as his equal", or would he have been
"marked" eventually, even if no one had overheard the
prophecy that day?
AND, what DID make LV decide to go after HP and not
Neville. I think that is a MAJOR clue right there.

~Mo, who doesn't know WHAT to think, but knows there
is MUCH more to HP/Neville/Prophecy than we know yet.
