By the way, on another topic - someone asked where Snape went when he
preceded Harry up to the Great Hall when Umbridge tried to expel
Trelawney - I wondered if he'd gone to get DD?

Berit replies:

If Snape went to get DD, then he would have to have passed Trelawney
and Umbridge and crossed the Entrance Hall in plain view of everybody
in order to reach the front doors. DD was not in his office or
anywhere else in the castle. He was outside in the forest fetching
the new Divination teacher; Firence the centaur. So I doubt Snape
went to get DD, unless he slipped outside through another exit (do we
know of any other exits apart from the tunnel leading into Hogsmeade?
Canon suggests Snape doesn't know about this exit; he investigated
the entrance, the humpbacked witch, very thoroughly in PoA, but
didn't discover its secret). But if Snape went to get DD, that
requires he knew where DD was at the time; he wouldn't have had the
time to search the whole castle and then go outside to continue his
search in the grounds and the forest.
