Potioncat:
Two threads have been brought to my attention about Lupin's boggart
73132 and 90112. Thanks! Oddly enough the 90112 was an offshoot of a
half baked idea I had about cockroaches. It still all comes down to
cockroaches. IIRC, here are the cockroach episodes:
Cockroach clusters and blood flavored candy are located in the same
area of Honeydukes. Blood candy for vampires? We're never told who
would want cockroach clusters. (PoA)
Right after the pensieve moment Snape smashes a jar of cockroaches
over Harry's head. (OoP)
In the Boggart class, Lupin interupts Harry to cast his own Boggart
orb/moon which disolves into a cockroach then Neville is called up
and the cockroach becomes Boggart/Snape. (PoA)
I don't recall the wording, but somehow his Boggart/Orb fades into a
cockroach. In the DoM, the orbs smash and a person appears speaking
a prophecy. Smashing orbs = prophecy Fading orb = cockroach.
Now, I hesitate to point this out, but look at the pattern from a
clue standpoint as it appears in the plot
Vampire candy----cockroach candy (whose?)
Lupin and friends----Snape and scattering cockroaches
Lupin's boggart/orb into roach----into Boggart/Snape
And, not close in story,
prophecy orbs shattering -------jar of cockroaches shattering.
So, to get to two possible points here.
The cockroaches seem to be connected to both Lupin and Snape.
The orb is a prophecy orb not the moon He lied to Hermione so that
she wouldn't make another connection.
