Hi all, tried a cursory search of the archive and didn't find
anything about this particular topic, so I thought that I would throw
it out there. I was thinking the other day (in anticipation of my
summer vacation when I can reread my HP from the begining) about old,
pure-blooded wizarding families, and the speculation about the
existence of social events in which engagements might be arranged
between sons and daughters of old clans. I was also thinking about
the animosity...well, hatred between Snape and Sirius, and was
wondering if they perhaps met at one of these old family socials, and
had a, shall we say, negative encounter? This, added to their issues
from their school days, would give ever more reason for them to
dislike each other. I would speculate that Sirius would have been
forced to attend these functions with his family before his
defection, and that maybe some experience with Snape led him (and in
the end, James as well) to detest Snape. Any thoughts? Or has being
stuck in school during the nice weather finally caused my HP starved
brain to snap?

Marauders
My reply:
YES! I think that we do need more about the history of the marauders. I honestly think she should write a prequel, if she decides to write more about the HP universe. I mean lets face it she has obviously done some writing on Sirius' life and most probably Snape as well. I don't think Sirius and Snape liked eachother from diapers. I mean it's obvious to me that Sirius did not approve of Snape's interest in dark magic. He even said something in GOF about Snape knowing more hexes than the entire school when he was a first year. For some reason, Sirius did not take to dark magic. I believe a great deal of this has to do with his cousin Andromeda, Tonks' mother. I don't think that Sirius was always Mr. Cool, and along those very same lines I refuse to believe that Snape is Mr. Innocent. Perhaps, Sirius witnessed Snape do something that killed him as a child. Perhaps, he even did it to Sirius. I mean we know that at Hogwarts he became cocky but I refuse to believe that this
was his personality before Hogwarts. I think that part of Sirius' attitude was simply a thirst to prove himself. James became a part of that after he became close to Sirius. I think your on to something here Meri.
