Luckie's response:
We are (somewhat) sure Sirius is really dead, although that's
debateable. JKR has said (I believe) he will still play a role in teh
future books. Which leads to my theory: Harry will discover some kind
of journal or other device - even a pensieve - at Grimmauld place
that will give him mucho info about Sirius's early life and the
marauder's time at Hogwarts.

Luckie's response:
I believe the HP universe is highly subjective. We see almost
everything (except the pensieve memories) from Harry's perspective.
This leads me to believe that perhaps Dumbledore is a little more of
a crackpot than we realize. It also rationalizes my Good!Draco
theory, as everything we know about Draco is from Harry's
perspective, colored by Ron's comments about slytherin and the fact
that Lucius is a Death Eater. I am dangerously off topic, but perhaps
our image of Snape is simply colored by Harry's perception. I've
often thought of Snape as being very hard on his students to get them
to learn - like McGonagall's strictness, but to the extreme. This
method obviously backfires with Neville. I'm not saying he's right,
but it's a possibility. Also, our view of Snape's worst memory is
colored by Snape's perception of the events. We don't know if Snape
did something horrible to the marauders before the memory took place -
perhaps something they didn't want to tell Lily.

Obviously, some of the things Draco says, some of the things Snape
does, and some things James and Sirius did to Snape are pretty
horrible and inexcusable. But I'm sure most of us have memories of
things that seem much worse than they really were, or take things the
wrong way occasionally.
