Potioncat:
It would make sense that the baby born to a house-elf would belong 
to that family.  Whether the house-elves are permitted to have their 
own house-elf family is another matter.  A house-elf might not get 
the opportunity to know his/her father.

Isn't it interesting that Serius and Kreacher both appear to be the 
last of their lines?
